NYC Crime Report Highlights SoHo Bitcoin Torture, Randall’s Island Assault, Diddy Case Update on May 31, 2025

New York City authorities and ongoing legal proceedings remained under intense scrutiny as details emerged from a report consolidating significant criminal incidents and judicial developments across the five boroughs. The report, dated May 31, 2025, highlighted a harrowing kidnapping and torture case in SoHo, a brutal assault on Randall’s Island, updates on a controversial Upper West Side dog attack, discussions around bodega safety, and key movements in the high-profile Sean “Diddy” Combs case.

Brutal Kidnapping and Torture in SoHo

Among the most disturbing incidents featured was the alleged kidnapping and torture of a 28-year-old tourist from Italy. According to details presented in the report, the victim was held for weeks in an 8-bedroom townhouse located on Prince Street in the upscale SoHo neighborhood of Manhattan. Two men, identified as 37-year-old John Wolz and 32-year-old William Duplexie, are alleged to have been responsible for the ordeal.

Investigators believe the motive behind the lengthy captivity and abuse was to extract the victim’s Bitcoin password. The report indicated that the torture methods employed were severe, including beatings, drugging, and electric shocks over the multi-week period.

The victim managed to escape the Prince Street location on the Friday preceding the May 31st report. Following his escape and notification of authorities, law enforcement successfully apprehended the two suspects, John Wolz and William Duplexie. The incident underscores the increasing intersection of digital assets and violent crime, raising concerns about the vulnerability of individuals possessing cryptocurrency.

Violent Assault Leaves Mother Near Death on Randall’s Island

Separately, the report detailed a horrifying assault on a mother of two on a bike path on Randall’s Island. The victim was reportedly biking home from work when she was brutally attacked, robbed, and severely beaten.

She was subsequently found near death by first responders. Police have been actively investigating the incident and, as noted in the report, have successfully taken a suspect into custody in connection with the brutal assault. The condition of the mother of two was not immediately specified beyond being found in a critical state, highlighting the extreme violence of the attack.

Updates on Other Significant Incidents

The May 31st report also touched upon other criminal matters impacting the city. New revelations were discussed regarding an Upper West Side dog attack case that garnered significant public attention. The incident involved pit bulls that had previously been subject to a court order mandating they be muzzled. These new details are expected to play a role in ongoing legal or regulatory discussions surrounding dangerous animals in urban environments.

Furthermore, the report included a segment dedicated to a discussion on the persistent issue of bodega safety across the city. Bodegas, often cornerstones of neighborhood life, frequently face challenges related to crime, and the discussion reportedly focused on potential strategies or initiatives aimed at increasing security and reducing incidents affecting these businesses and their patrons.

Sean “Diddy” Combs Case Development

Adding a prominent legal dimension to the report’s coverage, developments in the ongoing case involving Sean “Diddy” Combs were highlighted. A significant turn noted was a judge’s decision to deny a mistrial bid in proceedings related to the music mogul.

This development followed powerful testimony presented by stylist Deontay Nash. Nash’s testimony reportedly included allegations that Combs had previously beaten artist Cassie Ventura and had also been physically aggressive with Nash himself. The judge’s denial of the mistrial bid indicates the court’s intention to proceed with evaluating the evidence presented, including Nash’s potentially impactful testimony, in the ongoing legal process concerning Mr. Combs.

The range of incidents covered in the May 31, 2025 report, from violent personal attacks and property crimes to legal proceedings involving public figures and broader discussions on public safety, underscores the complex and persistent challenges faced by New York City in addressing crime and ensuring the safety of its residents and visitors.
