Bengaluru, India – November 4, 2025 – In a significant move to accelerate industrial innovation, ABB India, in partnership with Microsoft and SynerLeap, has announced Cloudworx as the winner of the prestigious ABB Startup Challenge. The Bengaluru-based startup was recognized for its groundbreaking AI-powered 3D visualization technology, which promises to revolutionize the way industries approach smart drive technology and enhance energy efficiency. This victory in the ABB Startup Challenge highlights the immense potential of Indian startups in driving technological advancements.

Cloudworx’s AI-Powered Vision for Industrial Processes: A Key Outcome of the ABB Startup Challenge

The core of Cloudworx’s winning solution lies in its ability to create dynamic, AI-driven digital replicas – or “process twins” – of complex business operations. This innovative technology enables real-time monitoring, simulation, and continuous improvement of industrial processes. For the motor and drive sector, this translates into a streamlined experience for selecting the ideal ABB motor-drive match, simplifying commissioning, and optimizing maintenance procedures through intelligent data analysis. This advancement in technology is set to redefine operational efficiency for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users alike, a direct result of the focus fostered by the ABB Startup Challenge.

The ABB Startup Challenge India 2025, themed “Advancing smart drive technology with AI innovation,” attracted over 100 visionary startups. After a rigorous selection process, seven finalists pitched their solutions, showcasing the depth of India’s deep-tech ecosystem. This marks the sixth year of the challenge globally, and its first iteration in India, highlighting ABB India innovation and its commitment to fostering open innovation and developing scalable, local solutions with international relevance through initiatives like the ABB Startup Challenge.

The initiative underscores ABB’s ongoing efforts to integrate cutting-edge AI in manufacturing into industrial applications, aligning with its legacy of technological excellence, including 50 years of low-voltage (LV) drives globally and two decades of drives production in India. The ABB Startup Challenge is a testament to this commitment.

Collaboration and Global Impact from the ABB Startup Challenge

As the winner of the ABB Startup Challenge, Cloudworx will receive a $30,000 project prize and will embark on a collaborative journey with ABB experts to refine its solution into a market-ready product. The startup will also benefit from invaluable mentoring from Microsoft and SynerLeap’s startup advisors, along with a six-month membership to SynerLeap, ABB’s global innovation growth hub. This partnership, born from the ABB Startup Challenge, aims to equip Cloudworx’s Cloudworx AI technology with global launch potential, extending its impact beyond India and contributing to ABB’s vision of accelerating energy efficiency solutions across industries.

AR Madhusudan, President and Local Division Manager, Drive Products, ABB India, emphasized the importance of this collaboration stemming from the ABB Startup Challenge. “At ABB India, we see startups as vital partners in shaping the future of industrial technology,” he stated. “With India’s rapidly evolving industrial landscape and growing focus on energy efficiency, enabling seamless adoption of drives is more important than ever. The quality of applications and the insightful pitches truly highlighted the strength of India’s startup ecosystem, and we are proud to co-create solutions with visionary startups through this platform, a key objective of the ABB Startup Challenge.”

Advancing Smart Drive Innovation and Energy Efficiency: A Goal of the ABB Startup Challenge

The ABB Startup Challenge competition specifically aimed to explore how AI in manufacturing can analyze drive data and application needs to provide OEMs with the optimal ABB motor-drive configurations. Motor-driven systems are significant energy consumers, accounting for approximately 45% of global electricity usage, making advancements in their efficiency critical for achieving sustainability goals. Cloudworx’s AI-driven approach offers a promising pathway to reduce this consumption and enhance overall system reliability, a direct impact of the insights generated by the ABB Startup Challenge.

The news signifies a crucial step forward in integrating advanced AI technology into industrial automation, reinforcing India’s position as a hub for technological innovation and sustainable development. The collaboration between ABB, Microsoft, SynerLeap, and Cloudworx, facilitated by the ABB Startup Challenge, is poised to deliver tangible benefits to the industrial sector, driving efficiency and smart technology adoption. This initiative, the ABB Startup Challenge, exemplifies ABB’s dedication to fostering innovation in industrial process optimization.
