Iran Launches Extensive Missile Barrage on Israel in Retaliatory Strikes

TEHRAN/JERUSALEM – Iran has launched a significant and extensive missile attack targeting Israel, framing the action as direct retaliation for recent Israeli aggression on its soil, specifically referencing “Friday attacks.” The scale of the offensive was described as a “massive missile attack” involving a “barrage of missiles” directed towards occupied territories.

The strikes reportedly targeted both civilian and military infrastructure, referred to in initial reports as “Israel’s residential and military zones.” Accounts from the ground indicated “heavy destructions in occupied territories” following the impact of the projectiles.

Confirmation and Stated Targets

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s elite military and security force, swiftly confirmed its involvement in the operation. The IRGC issued a statement acknowledging they had fired missiles towards Israel. According to the IRGC’s confirmation, their targets were specific and strategic, focusing on “military centers” and “defense industries” within Israel.

This official acknowledgment from the IRGC underscores the deliberate nature of the attack and Iran’s willingness to publicly claim responsibility for the cross-border strikes, positioning them as a proportional response to perceived provocation.

Beyond the general targets confirmed by the IRGC, other reports emerged detailing additional specific locations allegedly hit during the barrage. These reports indicated that Iran also targeted the headquarters of “Israel’s Channel 14,” a significant media outlet.

Furthermore, reports suggested that the strikes aimed at key defense infrastructure, including a reported targeting of “Israel’s Rafael company in Haifa.” Rafael Advanced Defense Systems is a major Israeli defense technology company, and an attack targeting its facilities would represent a significant focus on military production capabilities.

In a related development cited in reports, Iran also claimed to have successfully destroyed an “advanced Israeli drone over Iran.” This incident, if confirmed, would highlight the broader scope of the current tensions, extending beyond the missile exchange itself and indicating potential aerial surveillance or other preparatory activities.

Impact in Occupied Territories

Initial assessments of the impact within the affected regions highlighted civilian repercussions. Al Jazeera, citing reports from Israeli media, detailed the situation in central occupied Palestine. According to these accounts, “Israeli settlers were trapped inside several buildings damaged by missiles” as a result of the attack in this area.

These reports underscore the risks posed to civilian populations residing in areas affected by the missile strikes, regardless of the stated military objectives by the attacking force. The damage to residential structures and the reported trapping of individuals inside affected buildings point to the broad and indiscriminate nature of large-scale missile barrages.

Iran’s Stance on Negotiations

In the wake of the strikes, Iran articulated its position regarding potential de-escalation and future engagement. Tehran stated clearly that it “will not negotiate until Israel ceases its attacks.”

This firm precondition sets a clear demand for a halt to Israeli military actions as a prerequisite for any diplomatic engagement or discussion about ending the current hostilities. Iran further emphasized this stance by stating that an “unconditional cessation of aggression is the only way to end the conflict.”

This position signals Iran’s view that the current escalation is a direct consequence of prior Israeli actions and places the onus for de-escalation squarely on Israel, demanding an immediate halt to what it characterizes as Israeli aggression without preconditions on its own part for such a cessation.

The exchange marks a significant escalation in regional tensions, with Iran explicitly linking its military action to prior events and setting out a clear, non-negotiable demand for an end to what it perceives as ongoing Israeli aggression as the path towards resolving the conflict.
