The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ fifth annual gala, held on October 19, 2025, transformed Los Angeles into a beacon of cinematic glamour, drawing Hollywood’s brightest stars to celebrate film and support the institution’s vital work. This highly anticipated American event, often dubbed the “Met Gala of the West,” not only served as a crucial fundraiser but also as a spectacular showcase of cutting-edge fashion, previewing trends that are likely to define the upcoming awards season.

A Night of Stars and Style

The prestigious affair, which has quickly become a cornerstone of the entertainment calendar, raised over $12 million to fund the museum’s exhibitions, educational initiatives, and public programming. The Wilshire Boulevard campus buzzed with energy as luminaries from film, music, and fashion gathered. The evening’s success was bolstered by a formidable group of co-chairs: Jon M. Chu, Common, Viola Davis and Julius Tennon, Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey, Jennifer Hudson, and Academy Museum Trustee Alejandro Ramírez Magaña, all playing key roles in orchestrating the glamorous night.

This year’s gala also paid tribute to influential figures who have left an indelible mark on cinema. Bruce Springsteen was honored with the inaugural Legacy Award, presented by Martin Scorsese, and also treated attendees to a live performance. Academy Award-winning actress Penélope Cruz received the Icon Award, recognizing her significant global impact. Director Walter Salles was celebrated with the Luminary Award for his visionary filmmaking, and comedian Bowen Yang accepted the Vantage Award for his contributions to challenging dominant narratives in cinema, presented by Jon M. Chu.

Red Carpet’s Most Memorable Ensembles

The red carpet was, as expected, a parade of high fashion and exquisite design. Celebrities embraced a range of styles, from avant-garde creations to timeless Hollywood elegance, setting a high bar for fashion in the American entertainment news cycle.

Jenna Ortega captured attention with a daring ensemble from Grace Ling, featuring a futuristic, leaf-inspired metal breastplate paired with a deep merlot satin skirt that showcased an asymmetrical, low-rise design. Rachel Zegler channeled Old Hollywood glamour in a sculptural, hot pink gown by Tamara Ralph Couture, complete with opera gloves, evoking the spirit of classic film stars. Olivia Rodrigo delved into the archives, opting for a beaded top and floor-sweeping skirt from Giorgio Armani Privé’s Spring/Summer 2005 couture collection.

Hailey Bieber stunned in a corseted Schiaparelli gown from the Spring 2025 collection, distinguished by a thigh-high slit and intricate detailing. Her friend Kendall Jenner presented a contrasting, minimalist aesthetic in a sleek, sleeveless black dress by The Row. Demi Moore exuded sophistication in a striking burgundy Prada gown featuring a cascading side train and a perfectly proportioned neckline to showcase statement diamond jewelry.

Kim Kardashian made a bold statement with a head-covering Maison Margiela creation from their Spring/Summer 2025 collection, accompanied by considerable diamond jewelry. Zoë Kravitz opted for drama in a voluminous, puff-sleeved gown from Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2026 runway, a departure from her usual streamlined looks. Greta Lee and Mikey Madison, both new ambassadors for Christian Dior, wore creations from the fashion house. Ayo Edebiri showcased a look from Chanel’s debut collection under Matthieu Blazy, demonstrating a keen eye for emerging fashion narratives.

Other notable fashion moments included Eva Longoria in Elie Saab, Selena Gomez in a custom Giorgio Armani Privé black velvet gown with a matching jacket, and Elle Fanning in a dramatic, voluminous Balenciaga ensemble from their Spring 2026 runway, paired with Cartier jewels. Leslie Bibb donned a Carolina Herrera creation, while Viola Davis sported a Gucci design. Amanda Seyfried also presented a chic Prada look.

A Celebration of Cinema’s Past, Present, and Future

The Academy Museum Gala continues to solidify its position as a premier event, not only for its fundraising achievements but also for its role in celebrating cinematic artistry and influencing global fashion trends. The evening served as a vibrant reminder of the enduring power and cultural significance of film, with each meticulously chosen ensemble telling its own story on the star-studded carpet. The event underscores the vital mission of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures to preserve and showcase the art and science of filmmaking for generations to come, making it a crucial piece of American cultural news and an inspiration for the wider entertainment industry.
