Gaza Toll Surpasses 700 in Three Days as Israeli Operations Intensify Post-Ceasefire Withdrawal

Gaza Strip — Military operations in the Gaza Strip have escalated significantly following Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from a ceasefire on Tuesday, resulting in a sharp rise in casualties and widespread displacement. Palestinian health officials report that the death toll among Palestinians has surpassed 700 since the renewed offensive began three days ago, highlighting the devastating impact on the densely populated territory.

Mounting Death Toll and Humanitarian Crisis

According to figures released by Gaza’s Health Ministry, a total of 710 Palestinians have been killed in the renewed Israeli attacks since the ceasefire ended. The ministry specified that at least 95 people have died since daybreak on March 20, 2025. Among the victims is a newborn baby, underscoring the toll on the civilian population.

Beyond the fatalities, the ministry reported that another 900 Palestinians have been injured. The majority of the wounded are children and women. Medical sources on the ground indicate that some of the injured have succumbed to their wounds due to a critical shortage of medical equipment. This scarcity is attributed to Israel’s total blockade of Gaza, which commenced on March 2, 2025, severely restricting the entry of essential supplies, including medical resources.

Renewed Military Operations and Strategic Control

The Israeli army has confirmed its reinvasion of the Gaza Strip, stating it has reasserted control over the Netzarim Corridor. This strategic strip of land effectively divides the northern and southern parts of the territory, impacting movement and access within Gaza.

Israeli forces are continuing their bombardment of Gaza by land, air, and sea for a third straight day since the unilateral end of the ceasefire on Tuesday. The intensity of the operations reflects a significant shift in the conflict dynamics following the breakdown of the temporary truce.

Displacement Orders Issued

In addition to the military actions, Israeli planes have dropped leaflets over specific areas, ordering residents to evacuate their homes. These orders targeted communities in Beit Lahia and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, as well as parts of Khan Younis in the south.

Thousands of residents in these areas are being told to leave once again, adding another layer of complexity and hardship to their lives. Many of these families had already been displaced multiple times by previous phases of the conflict, facing persistent uncertainty and the loss of their homes and livelihoods.

United Nations Condemnation of Fatal Attack

The humanitarian situation is further exacerbated by attacks on international organizations operating in the strip. The United Nations has issued a strong condemnation regarding a deadly Israeli airstrike on a U.N. building located in Deir al-Balah on Wednesday. The strike resulted in the death of one U.N. worker and left five others severely wounded.

U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres has addressed the incident, calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack on the U.N. facility and personnel. The targeting of humanitarian infrastructure raises serious concerns about the safety of aid workers and the ability to deliver essential assistance to the affected population.

Outlook Remains Dire

The renewed offensive marks a grave turn in the ongoing conflict, with the significant increase in casualties and the re-imposition of strategic control points like the Netzarim Corridor signaling a protracted and challenging period for Gaza. The humanitarian consequences of the continued military operations and the comprehensive blockade are profound, placing immense pressure on civilian lives and infrastructure. As the death toll mounts and displacement continues, the international community watches with growing alarm at the unfolding crisis.
