Violent crime rates in 2025 are now at or below 2019 levels. This was the year before the pandemic began. Some analyses suggest the murder rate might be the lowest since 1900. This is a historic achievement for American justice. The decline marks a complete reversal of earlier trends. It follows a spike during the COVID-19 pandemic. The current rates are lower than in decades. ## Factors Driving the Decline

Experts point to multiple reasons for this trend. Identifying single causes is challenging. Analysts suggest renewed policing tactics played a role. Advancements in technology may also contribute.
