The succession plan should clearly outline the roles, responsibilities, and timelines associated with the transition of leadership and ownership. Beyond the succession plan itself, family businesses should consider implementing formal dispute resolution mechanisms, such as mediation or arbitration. These mechanisms can provide a neutral forum for resolving disagreements and prevent them from escalating into costly and time-consuming legal battles. Building a culture of open communication and respect is also crucial. Family members should be encouraged to communicate their concerns and perspectives openly and honestly, fostering a collaborative environment.

The challenges faced by India Inc. are significant, but the opportunities for growth and innovation are even greater. By addressing the underlying issues driving these family feuds, Indian businesses can position themselves for sustained success and contribute to the country’s economic growth. The key lies in embracing professional management, strengthening governance, and prioritizing structured succession planning.
