Federal Raid on Licensed California Farm Triggers Protester Clash, Injuries Reported

CAMARILLO, Calif. — A confrontation erupted on Thursday, July 10, 2025, between federal agents conducting a raid on a Southern California farm and dozens of protesters who gathered at the site. The incident, which took place near Camarillo in Ventura County, involved multiple federal agencies and led to road closures and the deployment of dispersal measures.

Operation and Response

Authorities, including vehicles from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Border Patrol, descended upon the agricultural area, establishing roadblocks that restricted access to the farm. As federal officials executed their operation, a crowd of demonstrators assembled nearby.

To disperse the gathering protesters, agents deployed canisters spraying a substance resembling smoke. Images captured at the scene depicted tense moments as demonstrators confronted federal agents outfitted in tactical gear.

A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the federal presence was related to the execution of a warrant. The spokesperson stated the warrant was being served at a “marijuana facility.”

Glass House Farms, which operates the farm where the incident occurred, also released a statement via social media. The company confirmed that agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had visited the property and stated that Glass House Farms had complied with search warrants presented by the agents.

Legal Context of Cannabis Operations

It is important to note the legal landscape surrounding cannabis in California. Growing and selling cannabis is legal within the state for businesses that hold the proper licenses and permits. Glass House Farms has publicly affirmed that it holds multiple active state licenses issued by California regulatory bodies, as well as a permit specifically for its operations in Ventura County.

The incident underscores the complex legal relationship and potential points of tension between state-level cannabis legalization and federal law, where cannabis remains classified as a controlled substance.

Emergency Services Dispatched

The Ventura County Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of the confrontation. According to Andrew Dowd, a spokesperson for the department, their units were sent out around 12:15 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Dowd reported that three individuals required emergency medical attention and were subsequently transported to nearby hospitals.

Broader Enforcement Trend

The confrontation occurred amidst a broader trend of increased federal immigration enforcement arrests across the Southern California region. This incident is seen by some as part of that larger pattern of heightened federal activity.

The context of federal enforcement has also involved actions previously taken by the Trump administration, which utilized the National Guard to protect federal immigration agents during raid operations and, more recently, dispatched a caravan of federal personnel to Los Angeles.
